Griffon - Busch Gardens Williamsburg
Busch Gardens Williamsburg’s dive coaster, Griffon, begins by holding riders on the edge of a twenty-story drop. Onlookers point and shake their heads as they marvel at what to many looks like a torturous experience. Griffon’s finale could be just as interesting from a spectators standpoint . The wide trains charge into a shallow pool creating a trail of water some twenty feet high. Any guests in the nearby walkway are treated to an instant shower. It’s not uncommon to see kids running over to fence to cool off. I first encountered a similar splash finale on Griffon’s sister Sheikra at Busch Gardens Tampa. More recently, a similar splash section was added to Kings Island’s hyper coaster Diamondback.

As I learned on the Busch Gardens Coaster Tour, Griffon’s water splash is created via scoops on the undersides of the trains. I’m a big fan of these features. Even the act of slowing down a roller coaster can be a highlight of a ride giving guests a memorable experience.

I really like these water splash finales. They really do create a wonderful visual effect. Sadly, I've never been able to ride one of these coasters, but I am panning to visit BGW soon.

Water splash finalies are a great way to end a ride and slow down the train. Griffon is awesome and one of my favorite rides. I tried to get a picture like this and it is very hard to get a clear picture! I tried about 10 times and still didnt get a clear picture. Good job Coaster Critic!

You forgot about the most recent splash section on a coaster. Krake's splash section immediately after the first drop.

Some people call these experiences torturous. I call them fun. Funny, isn't it?
