Disneyland Matterhorn - Monorail - First Timer TipsI’ve asked you where you’ll be headed in 2014 and now I’ll share my plans. My wife, MommyB Knows Best was invited to a special event at Disneyland Resort so we’ll be visiting both Disneyland and California’s Adventure with the family. My daughters are excited to meet their favorite Disney princesses and Disney Junior characters. They’ll also get to fly across country which should be fun for them too.

The Last Trip for The Coaster Critic

This will be my final theme park trip as The Coaster Critic since I’ll be retiring from the site soon. Disneyland will be a nice final trip as I’ve only been Disney World (Florida) and that was when I was 8. While I won’t be updating the site regularly after April, I would like to share my take on Disneyland. Check back on National Roller Coaster Day, August 16 for my review. Or, just sign up to receive my posts via email and you’ll get any posts that I publish. I promise, you will not be spammed.

Got Any First-Timer Tips for Disneyland?

I could use some tips since this will be my first time going to Disneyland. The majority of the focus will be on the girls and trying out the rides they’ll want to ride like the new Little Mermaid dark ride and the cool-looking Carsland rides. But I am hoping to squeeze in rides on the park’s iconic roller coasters, Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain, and Matterhorn Bobsleds. And also one of the World’s longest roller coasters, California Screamin’.

Are there any must rides or rides that you’d recommend we skip? I’d appreciate any tips that you have. Leave a comment below. Image via CC – Flickr User Beltz6

Remembering our last trip to Disneyland in 2005 I recommend taking advantage of the Fast Pass. If it hasn’t changed since then it’s included in your ticket. You go to the machine at the front of the ride & pop your tickets in. It tells you what time to come back and you then skip the queue. You can only ‘reserve’ one ride at a time. We used it for Splash Mountain, California Screamin & Indiana Jones. Space Mountain was closed. Another ride I’d highly recommend is Tower of Terror at California Adventure. It’s great! Freefalling up & down in the dark. Will you have time to visit Knott’s Berry Farm?

Radiator Springs Racers fastpasses run out within 2 hours of park opening. Don’t know your dates but Little Mermaid is closed for refurbishment the next few weeks. Matterhorn, Screamin’ & Goofys Sky School have single rider.

I think that at WDW the FastPass policies changed with the introduction of the MagicBands. So a lot might depend on whether they’ve introduced the MagicBand system at Disneyland by the time The Coaster Critic gets there.
