SAW - The Ride at Thorpe ParkBrits Brace for a Horrifically Steep New Roller Coaster
SAW – The Ride opened at Thorpe Park in Surrey, England last week. It opened appropriately on Friday the 13th. Apparently, the country is in quite a buzz. Multiple on-ride fan and BBC news videos have surfaced. Aside from the Saw horror movie theming, riders seem most fearful of the 100 degree drop.
Check out this BBC news video about SAW – The Ride at Thorpe Park:

Disclaimer: Please disregard the concerned guy towards the end of the video who would like to see more research into the effects of roller coasters on the body. The BBC just had to give both sides. They do REAL journalism over in the UK and had to give a balanced view in even a light-hearted news story about a roller coaster.

The Steepest Roller Coasters in the World

SAW’s 100 degree drop is touted as the steepest freefall drop in the world, but to my knowledge Indiana Beach’s Steel Hawg has the current record. It’s listed on RCDB at 111 degrees, although it’s also been mentioned to have a 120 degree drop. Either way, both of the above will be surpassed when Steel Hawg clone Mumbo Jumbo opens this year at Flamingo Land in Yorkshire, UK. It will have a 112 degree drop.

Steel Hawg has magnetic brakes entering the first drop, so I suppose it is technically not a freefall drop.

ThiS ride is actually so good! I've ridden it five times and it's probably the best coaster in the uk aswell as the best coaster I've ever been on.

How scary is this ride, I might be going to the UK soon, and I'd like to know.

I guess the video in the post isn't enough? I can't speak to specifics as I haven't been to the UK yet.

By the way, congratulations on leaving the 7000th comment!
